How to use Agency Manager Handbook forms in Microsoft Word

Several sections of the 2005-2006 Agency Manager’s Handbook have been set up as forms in Microsoft Word. You will be able to access different features of the handbook documents based on whether the form is protected or not.

When the form is protected this means that you can

• Hit the TAB key between different lines (or fields) of information
• Enter data without significantly altering the appearance of the form
• Save whole Microsoft Word document to your computer including information you have typed in the forms

When the form is protected you can NOT

• Select text in the form
• Edit text in the form
• Copy text from the form
• Paste text into another document
• Use spell check
• Save only a portion of a Microsoft Word document to your computer

To un protect a form:

1. Open the document in Microsoft Word (will happen automatically if you open it from the Agency Manager Handbook CD)
2. Select Tools from the Menu at the top of the document
3. From the Tools Menu, Select “Unprotect Document” (see Figure 1 below)
4. The Form is now Unprotected and you can do all of the tasks listed above
5. To Protect the form again go to the Tools menu, choose Protect Document and choose Forms from the option box

NOTE: If you are using a version of Microsoft Word that is older than Word 2000, unprotecting the form will clear anything you have typed in the form fields.
