Celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) for Special Olympics Wisconsin. The LETR has raised nearly $17 million for Special Olympics Wisconsin since 1986! LETR participants will be carrying the Flame of Hope™ through communities across Wisconsin to light the Cauldron during the opening ceremony of the State Summer Games in Stevens Point on June 9, 2011. The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Titan swim team members recently stretched out on on the side of the campus pool as they geared up to compete against their favorite competitor, Team Blue, a Special Olympics Wisconsin team from Oshkosh that not only gives them a workout, but also reminds them about the importance of teamwork. For both swim teams, this has become an anticipated annual event. Read more

But for one special day each winter, they move their shanties aside, let shrieks of laughter shatter the silence, and watch thousands of thrill-seekers join the fish in the frigid waters for the Oshkosh Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Wisconsin. In 1986, compassion, joy and hope ignited a movement among law enforcement to spread awareness of individuals with cognitive disabilities. That eternal flame burns with even more vigor today as Special Olympics Wisconsin celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Law Enforcement Torch Run. For John and Carol Graham, 2011 also marks their 25th year of service to this movement as well as an opportunity to honor their daughter, Brooke, who recently passed away unexpectedly.

Special Olympics Wisconsin (SOWI) is pleased to announce Ashley Gehrke has joined the staff as the Sports Events Manager. Gehrke’s responsibilities include managing registrations for state games as well as acting as a liaison with vendors, schools, committee members, and coaches for tournaments.
