SOWI Staff sends President Dennis Alldridge Over the Edge

Dennis AlldridgeThe Special Olympics Wisconsin staff is collecting funds to "toss the boss," Dennis Alldridge, President of Special Olympics Wisconsin, Over the Edge this September. If the staff raises $1,500, he'll rappel down the 14-story Hilton Madison Monona Terrace. If $3,000 is raised, he'll rappel down the 20-story Hilton Milwaukee City Center.

Team Wisconsin returns from National Games

Team Wisconsin's 62 athletes and 21 coaches returned from the second-ever 2010 Special Olympics U.S. National Games on Saturday, July 24 with 121 medals and 19 ribbons for sports including bowling, aquatics, power lifting, golfing, basketball, tennis, bocce, rhythmic gymnastics, soccer and athletics. Apply to be an athlete in the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Athens, Greece

The 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games will be held June 25 - July 4, 2011 in Athens, Greece. It is anticipated that 7,000 athletes and 2,500 coaches from the United States will compete in the World Games. To apply, download the athlete application and return it to the Special Olympics Wisconsin state office by August 15, 2011. Three athlete spots are available for Team Wisconsin: one male athletics athlete, one female aquatics athlete and one male bocce player.

AthleteWorld's Largest Truck Convoy to be held September 18, 2010

Truckers from all over North America will join the World's Largest Truck Convoy for Special Olympics. In Wisconsin, the Convoy will be escorted by law enforcement from Richfield to Oshkosh's EAA Grounds for a celebration recognizing truckers and the support of the trucking industry. It is our way of saying thank you for your commitment to Special Olympics athletes and for keeping America moving! More information

Youth Activation Summit held during National Games

The Youth Activation Summit (YAS) took place on the University of Nebraska, Omaha campus July 18 - July 23. The Summit provided a forum where participants acquired and enhanced knowledge and skills needed to activate youth around the country. Read more

Project UNIFY: Educate, Motivate, Activate youth around the world

Project UNIFY's goal is to activate young people to develop school communities where all young people are agents of change — fostering respect, dignity and advocacy for people with intellectual disabilities by utilizing the programs and initiatives of Special Olympics. Read More
