More than 1,000 Special Olympics athletes struck down bowling pins and spiked volleyballs during the 2009 Special Olympics Wisconsin State Fall Sports Tournament on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at the Center Area Sports Complex, AMF Bowlero Lanes, and AMF Waukesha Lanes. Read more
On December 4, 2009 Special Olympics Wisconsin held its inaugural MedFest at the Tommy Thompson Youth Center in Milwaukee. MedFest is the newest addition to the Healthy Athletes program and simply put, is a comprehensive physical exam for both current and potential SOWI athletes. Read more

After eight years participating in Special Olympics basketball, softball, and volleyball, Cory Buss, 21, will compete in athletics at the national level the National Games next summer. A team player, Buss helped his relay team win Gold medals at State in both the 4X400 and 4X100 races.
Buss works as a Utility Clerk at Pick ‘N Save, is working towards a degree in College Fire Science at Milwaukee Area Technical College and enjoys playing video games and listening to music.

Kristy Bridenhagen, Agency manager of the Stevens Point Area YMCA 2-25, offers the most sports in all of the North Central WisconsinArea. When asked about her Agency, Kristy boasted that on top of all of these sports they also offer Therapeutic Recreation Arts Club (TRAC) on a weekly basis. Her goal of the Agency is to keep it “well rounded”. Besides doing a craft session once or twice a month, the athletes volunteer for local non-profits and have dances that bring more than 100 people together. Read more
It's starting to look a lot like Polar Plunge season! This year, there will be 12 Polar Plunges benefiting Special Olympics Wisconsin throughout the state. Some big changes this year include a new Plunge in Menomonie and a new location for the Stevens Point Plunge in Wisconsin Rapids. So far, over 1,000 Plungers have registered online!

More than 1,000 law enforcement officials and Special Olympics staff from across the world, including many Wisconsinites, traveled to Connecticut for the 26th annual International LETR Conference this past November. Read more
In November, Kwik Trip stores sold $1 icons raising $146,007 for Special Olympics Wisconsin. Thank you to Kwik Trip employees for all of your hard work and to the customers who chose to support the athletes!
On December 7th, ESPN Monday Night Football presented Special Olympics Wisconsin Northeastern Area 5 with the Fans Helping Fans Community Service Award for the outstanding services they provide to the Green Bay area.

George Whitely, president of Stephan & Brady, Inc. in Madison, WI was recently selected to be honored by the Madison Civics Club. Recipients of this honor are community members who show “outstanding, unselfish service to their community.” Whitely is the current Chair of the Board of Directors for Special Olympics Wisconsin. For more than 17 years, he has served in a variety of leadership positions on and off the Board. Read more
