Does this weather have you feeling like spring is on the way? Why not take a dip early this season at the Special Olympics Wisconsin Polar Plunge®! The 2012 Polar Plunge season is well underway, but if you still haven’t registered yet, don’t worry! There are eight more Polar Plunge events taking place across the state this year, from the Mississippi River to Lake Michigan.
The Polar Plunge is one of many Law Enforcement Torch Run® events that gives Wisconsinites the chance to run or jump into freezing cold bodies of water to raise money and awareness for the 10,000 athletes of Special Olympics Wisconsin. The Polar Plunge snowballs every year, as veterans recruit Plunger newbies to join the fun.
Like many partners throughout the state, Fox Sports Wisconsin has grown their team nearly two-fold this year. Katie Mangin, Client Service Coordinator for Fox Sports Wisconsin, can’t wait to lead her 10-15 member team to the Watering Hole for the Green Bay Polar Plunge on February 25th.
“The atmosphere is a constant feeling of excitement and support,” recalls Mangin. “The crowd is cheering you on just like they would when your favorite team scores a touchdown, hits a homerun or banks a game winning shot.”
But, like a true Below Zero Hero, it’s not the bragging rights that keep Mangin coming back for more. It’s the rewarding feeling of knowing her team helped Special Olympics Wisconsin provide year-round sports and training opportunities to individuals with cognitive disabilities.
“Anything we can do as a company to help promote the organization we will do, even if that includes us jumping in freezing water,” said Katie, with a grin. “It’s a full day of showing your support for the athletes of Special Olympics Wisconsin.”
In addition to Fox Sports Wisconsin, a big thank you goes out to all Statewide Partners, the Law Enforcement Torch Run, Kwik Trip, Buffalo Wild Wings, and the Tavern League of Wisconsin and the brave Wisconsinites taking part in this year’s Polar Plunge.
Want to see what all the fuss is about? Register for Plunges taking place now through March 3rd or donate online, at SpecialOlympicsWisconsin.org! So far, a total of 1,089 Plungers have raised $246,000 at the Wisconsin Rapids, Menomonie, Southeastern Wisconsin and Muskego Polar Plunges!
