Over the past 23 years, Officer Brian Krueger of the Sheboygan Police Department has shown exceptional support of Special Olympics Wisconsin through his involvement with the Law Enforcement Torch Run® (LETR). He has continued to raise awareness and recruit fellow officers so that the movement’s mission will continue for years to come, which made him the perfect candidate to be inducted into the Wisconsin LETR Dale Brunner Hall of Fame in June, 2012.
“Officer Krueger’s attitude is contagious and he lives the true mission of the LETR,” says Kathy Walker, Northeastern Regional Director of Development for Special Olympics Wisconsin. Year after year, Officer Krueger recruits new young officers to get involved with the Torch Run at local competitions and fundraisers, and he does so by example.
“Officer Krueger is a perfect example of what makes the LETR and Special Olympics a great match,” says Martha Hill, Special Olympics Wisconsin athlete and International LETR Executive Council Member.
In addition to Krueger’s daily recruitment efforts, he also organizes Sheboygan’s annual Final Leg, which sees over 50 participants each year and incorporates numerous agencies, including Kohler, Plymouth, Sheboygan and Sheboygan Falls Police Departments, along with the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office, and Corrections Probation & Parole. He also takes part in selling LETR t-shirts and helps organize basketball invitationals in his community.
“Officer Krueger understands that every awareness creating exposition, every high five he gives an athlete, every dollar he raises has an impact. He knows that in order to keep the momentum going, to continue to positively impact our athletes, to continue to raise the stakes for what is possible, there needs to be someone to pass the torch to. He feels a deep, personal responsibility to the LETR and the athletes of Special Olympics Wisconsin to have the next generation of torch runners in place,” says Walker.
Thank you Officer Krueger for your 23 years of dedication to the nearly 10,000 athletes that participate in Special Olympics Wisconsin!
