Featured Edger: Aaron Ciuplinski

Aaron Ciuplinski was never a “huge daredevil” before his first time going Over the Edge last year, but ever since, he has found himself trying more things that “make life a lot more fun.” With that attitude, he will be back to rappel down the side of The City Center downtown Milwaukee this year on Friday, September 14, 2012.

Ciuplinski did not know too much about Special Olympics Wisconsin (SOWI) until he heard about Over the Edge at his work. He conducted some research of his own and was eager to get involved. But especially after, “meeting some of the athletes and seeing first-hand what SOWI meant to them,” he knew that Special Olympics was a great cause.

In order to raise the minimum registration amount of $1,000 to go Over the Edge, Ciuplinski said he will ask family, friends and he even plans to hold a fundraiser at a local bar and grill. He urges people to be enthusiastic and ask around town for contributions.

“Small local businesses will sometimes even be willing to help out with a fundraiser or a flat cash donation,” said Ciuplinski.

Some more advice from this seasoned fundraiser, “Ask everyone you know! You’d be surprised at how many people you don’t think would help your cause actually end up getting excited after they hear about it… then they are eager to donate.” Ciuplinski says that with so much going on, it’s impossible to know what he will be thinking on his way down.

“It’s such a rush hearing all the people below cheering you on, taking in the view, and paying attention to what you’re doing,” he said. “Can’t wait for Over the Edge 2012!”
