Special Olympics Wisconsin (SOWI) athlete, James Spoentgen, was thrilled to participate in the State Outdoor Sports Tournament in Eau Claire in August.
Spoentgen played softball for the Manitowoc City Miracles during the tournament, but he also participates in bowling in the fall. He said he loves softball because he gets such great exercise running . Spoentgen joined SOWI in 1984 and has enjoyed every minute of his time with the organization. As an experienced SOWI athlete, he has great advice for his fellow and future athletes.
“Like my dad always says, ‘have fun, do your best, and show good sportsmanship’,” said Spoentgen.
Spoentgen face lit up when he thought about what he would say to anyone who is thinking about joining SOWI.
“Everyone should come on out and meet other athletes,” said Spoentgen. “It’s too much fun not to!”
