Texas Roadhouse Guardians of the Flame® FREE Lunch Fundraiser Raised Funds for Special Olympics Wisconsin

Who said there’s no such thing as a free lunch? That wasn’t true on April 22 when Texas Roadhouse locations across the state, including Kenosha, Racine, New Berlin, Waukesha, Eau Claire, La Crosse, and West Bend, took part in the Guardians of the Flame FREE lunch and raised more than $28,200 to benefit Special Olympics Wisconsin (SOWI). Texas Roadhouse in Appleton also raised approximately $6,000 for our athletes by donating 10% of sales April 22, 23 and 24.

Chief Lisa Walter from the University of Wisconsin-Stout Police Department was recently inducted into the Richard LaMunyon Law Enforcement Torch Run® (LETR) for Special Olympics Hall of Fame at the International LETR Conference on November 10, 2012.

Red Robin Tip-a-Cop

On Saturday, October 13, local law enforcement traded in their badges for aprons at Red Robin® restaurants in Wisconsin as part of the national Tip-A-Cop® event benefitting Special Olympics. Law enforcement in 39 states collected tips and served Red Robin restaurant guests throughout the day. All ten Wisconsin Red Robin locations were involved in the fundraiser and raised a grand total of $24,402.79 throughout the state, which is $10,360.33 more than last year and an incredible $18,151.93 more than 2010!

Trucking Industry and Law Enforcement Working Together for Special Olympics Wisconsin

The 8th annual World’s Largest Truck Convoy® presented by Quad/Graphics was held on Saturday, September 15th to raise money for the 10,000 athletes of Special Olympics Wisconsin (SOWI). Truck drivers, athletes, volunteers and law enforcement dedicated an early morning drive from Richfield to Oshkosh to help raise more than $84,000 for this Law Enforcement Torch Run® event. As the sun began to rise, drivers were greeted by athletes as they registered their trucks and enjoyed a free concert by country singer, Leland Martin, sponsored by JX Peterbilt.

Over the past 23 years, Officer Brian Krueger of the Sheboygan Police Department has shown exceptional support of Special Olympics Wisconsin through his involvement with the Law Enforcement Torch Run® (LETR). He has continued to raise awareness and recruit fellow officers so that the movement’s mission will continue for years to come, which made him the perfect candidate to be inducted into the Wisconsin LETR Dale Brunner Hall of Fame in June, 2012.

Fond du Lac City Police Officers’ Journey to Spread Awareness

May 13-19, 2012 is National Police Week, an event created after President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation designating May 15th as “Peace Officer Memorial Day” in 1962 to recognize law enforcement across the country and remember fallen heroes. Special Olympics Wisconsin would like to thank the 1,000 officers throughout the state who not only serve their communities, but help raise funds and awareness of the nearly 10,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities that train and compete in Special Olympics Wisconsin through the Law Enforcement Torch Run® (LETR).

Chief Kurt Heuer of the Wisconsin Rapids Police Department has been volunteering for Special Olympics Wisconsin (SOWI) since 1999. He has been an inspiration to his department and his community to get involved and give back to the athletes in his region through the Law Enforcement Torch Run® (LETR). His hard work and dedication has accomplished so much for the North Central Region in many more ways than consistently being the top fundraiser for the Wisconsin Rapids Polar Plunge.

Texas Roadhouse and Law Enforcement Team Up to Raise Money for SOWI

Eleven Texas Roadhouse restaurants across the state raised over $34,000 for Special Olympics Wisconsin (SOWI) on Monday, January 16 during the Guardians of the Flame® FREE lunch event.

Texas Roadhouse opened its doors from 11a.m.-2p.m. to serve free pulled pork sandwiches, applesauce, fries and soda to more than 5,200 Special Olympics supporters. Local law enforcement officers teamed up with the wait staff to serve the meal and collect tips, all of which will benefit the 10,000 Special Olympics athletes in Wisconsin.
