Whether you’re from Oregon or Eau Claire, here’s your chance to root for your home team at the Hometown Games this spring! Athletes will compete in track and field (athletics) competitions in communities across the state on Saturday, May 5th in Oregon, Eau Claire, Green Bay, and Racine as well as in Appleton, Merrill, and Muskego on Saturday, May 12th.

600 Athletes Compete at the Indoor Sports Tournament in Oshkosh!

Last weekend, nearly 600 Special Olympic athletes stormed Oshkosh to demonstrate their skills on the basketball court and on the gymnastics floor at the 2012 Special Olympics Wisconsin Indoor Sports Tournament. The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh was thrilled to host this two day event from April 14-15.

SOWI State Summer Games is Right Around the Corner!

The Special Olympics Wisconsin (SOWI) State Summer Games is right around the corner! Nearly 2,000 athletes will converge from the corners of the state at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point for powerlifting, aquatics, athletes, and soccer competitions on June 7-11, 2012.

Indoor Sports Tournament Right Around the Corner!

Nearly 700 basketball players and gymnasts will travel across the state to attend the 36th annual Special Olympics Wisconsin (SOWI) State Indoor Sports Tournament at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh April 14-15, 2012.

As in the past, the Healthy Athletes Program will have medical professionals on-site Saturday in Gruenhagen to complete free eye, ear, dental, and fitness screenings for all athletes.

Milwaukee Athlete Heading to Orlando

Special Olympics Wisconsin (SOWI) athlete Rickie Kelly has been selected to participate in the first-ever NBA Cares Special Olympics Unity Sports Basketball Game, which will take place as part of the 2012 NBA All-Star weekend festivities in Orlando.  With support from The Coca-Cola Company, the game will tip off on Center Court at NBA All-Star Jam Session on Sunday, Feb. 26, and will feature 12 Special Olympics athletes from across the country, along with NBA Legends Clyde Drexler, Chris Mullin, Dikembe Mutombo and Sam Perkins, current WNBA players, and celebrities.  NBA stars Kevin Durant, Kemba Walker and Derrick Williams will also participate in

Athletes Compete at the 2012 State Winter Games

Nearly 300 snow shoe racers, skiers, and snowboarders gathered in Wausau from January 28-29 to compete at the 2012 Special Olympics Wisconsin (SOWI) State Winter Games. To kick off the weekend, special guest Senator Pam Galloway shot the starter pistol to officially declare the games open at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday at Nine Mile Forest. Approximately 100 coaches, 200 volunteers, and 400 spectators enjoyed temperatures in the 20’s, a nice change from the frigid weather of past years, while they cheered for the athletes from the sidelines.

Appleton Man takes a Special Hike across America

When a 53-year-old graphic designer from Appleton, Wisconsin embarks on a 4,300 mile hike across the country, one might wonder if he’s having a mid-life crisis.

David McHolland admits while this is his "Forrest Gump" moment, it’s also a chance for him to take a step in the right direction for millions of individuals with cognitive disabilities— including one very special woman—his younger sister Peggy.
