Athletes brave cold to compete at 2010 Winter Games
More than 300 snow shoe racers, speed skaters, skiers, and snowboarders gathered in Wausau from January 30-31 to compete at the 2010 Special Olympics Wisconsin State Winter Games. Despite the sunny skies, temperatures lingered in the mid-teens, forcing more than 400 spectators, 200 volunteers, and 100 coaches to bundle up while they cheered for the athletes from the sidelines.
Wausau has hosted this state tournament for the past 22 years. Thank you to Granite Peak, Greenheck Field House, and Nine Mile Forest for their continued support as well as Hydrite Chemical Company, the Dental Clinic of Marshfield and the Judd S. Alexander Foundation for their donations.
The athletes gathered on Saturday night to celebrate their sports achievements during the dance and ceremony at the Holiday Inn in Rothschild.
