Athletes can make Convoy their own
The 2008 World's Largest Truck Convoy for Special Olympics Wisconsin is scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 20. Last year, Special Olympics developed the Convoy Athlete Marshal as a chance for athletes to get involved in the Convoy. This year, SOWI will again offer an opportunity for an athlete to become the 2008 Convoy Athlete Marshal.
On the day of the Convoy, the Athlete Marshal will receive a wearable item to identify him/her as the Marshal. The Convoy Athlete Marshal will also be invited to ride in the lead VIP truck with the presenting sponsor. Additionally, the Convoy Marshal will pass out awards during the lunch program, where he/she will also be recognized for recruitment efforts. The athlete is, however, responsible for his/her transportation to and from the Convoy.
How to become the 2008 Convoy Athlete Marshal:
-
Interested SOWI athletes must recruit Convoy participants by talking to relatives, friends and/or community members involved in the trucking industry.
-
The registration brochure for the 2008 Convoy will include space for participants to indicate whether or not they were recruited by a SOWI athlete. Be sure that participants who sign up include the athlete's name on their application.
-
For each athlete-recruited participant, up to two weeks before the event, the names of athlete recruiters will be entered into a drawing for the Convoy Athlete Marshal. The more drivers you recruit, the more times your name will be entered into the drawing!
The drawing will take place two weeks prior to the 2008 event and SOWI will include the winner's name in event press releases and other media announcements.
