Law Enforcement Torch Run: Area 6

The Law Enforcement Torch Run® for Special Olympics is the movement's largest grass-roots fundraiser and public awareness vehicle, raising us $30 million for Special Olympics Programs around the world in 2007. In Wisconsin alone, it brings $1.3 million to our program.

One of the most fashionable fundraisers that the LETR is responsible for is T-shirt selling. The new logo is designed, and the T-shirts are ready to go. So get out there and sell, sell, sell! Please contact John Weichelt at 608-221-2900 or Jweichelt@specialolympicswisconsin.org to request shirts for selling. Small orders of shirts are usually available at the Area 6 office, but larger orders need to phoned or e-mailed in to ensure quality and convenience.

LETR 08 ShirtMore than 85,000 law enforcement officers carried the Flame of Hope across 35 nations, raising awareness and funds for Special Olympics. Thousands more supported the runners' efforts through "Adopt-A-Cop" runner sponsorships, local fundraising events, corporate sponsorships and Torch Run T-shirts (more than 400,000 sold) and other merchandise sales to fellow law enforcement officers, families, friends and the public.

The Torch Run is an actual running event in which officers and athletes run the "Flame of Hope" to the Opening Ceremonies of local Special Olympics competitions, state/provincial Games, and National Summer or Winter Games.

Every two years, law enforcement officers from around the world gather to carry the "Flame of Hope" in a Law Enforcement Torch Run Final Leg in honor of he Special Olympics World Summer or World Winter Games.

SOWI agencies can again fundraise by selling the shirts. They can earn 25% of the price of each shirt sold for their agency. The program runs April 1 - June 12, 2008. All money raised through the fundraiser will stay in its respective Area and each Agency will receive 25% of all sales.
