Corporate Sponsor: Famous Footwear

For more than five years, Famous Footwear has supported Special Olympics and is responsible for raising more than $50,000 through its involvement in the Polar Plunge each year. The company also contributes gift cards to Polar Plunge contest winners. Famous Footwear also sponsors the Cold Feet Award, where the corporation awards the plunger that looks or acts the most scared before plunging. The winners receives a gift card from Famous Footwear to buy shoes to warm up their “cold feet.”

“Our support of the Polar Plunge in Madison is unique because we are able to personalize the sponsorship through the annual cold feet award,” said Jen Stelse, community relations and event marketing specialist. “Special Olympics is a great organization that we are proud to have a long standing partnership with.”

Famous Footwear is America's No. 1 retailer of value brand name shoes for the entire family. With more than 800 stores nationwide, high-volume buying means big savings for the customers. Famous Footwear is owned and operated by Brown Shoe Company, Inc., a $2.5 billion footwear company with worldwide operations. The company was created in St. Louis and was originally named Bryan, Brown & Company after its founders George Warren Brown and Alvin Bryan. The name was changed to Brown Shoe Company in 1893.

NOTE: Since this article was written, Famous Footwear has announced that it is leaving Madison, but has graciously committed to supporting local charities for another three years.
