Trucking for a Cause

Two hundred trucks and $100,000 is the goal of the World’s Largest Truck Convoy® for Special Olympics Wisconsin on Saturday, September 20. The Convoy will begin at 9:30 a.m. and travel North on Highway 41 from the Pioneer Travel Plaza in Richfield to Oshkosh, where a celebration party will be held on the EAA grounds.

Law enforcement officers will escort the trucks along the route.
Convoys will take place across the United States and Canada to celebrate the trucking industry and raise money for Special Olympics. In 2007, Wisconsin’s Convoy raised more than $87,500 with 121 trucks participating. Since its inception in Wisconsin three years ago, a total of more than $167,000 has been raised, making Wisconsin’s Convoy one of the top in the world!

All trucks participating in the event must be 10-GVW or larger. Semi-truck, truck/trailer combination, fire truck, dump truck, flat bed, bus, large tow truck and large box truck are all acceptable.  Pre-registration is recommended, however registration will be accepted the day of the event. Registration is also available online where participants can create their own Web page through Special Olympics to gain pledges and earn incentive prizes.

Thank you to this year’s co-presenting sponsors, WEL Companies/Wally Tielens Memorial Fund and Quad/Graphics.  This event would not be possible without the support of our sponsors!

“I got involved with Special Olympics because it’s a great organization, with a great cause,” John Drake of Quad/Graphics says. “Helping athletes is just the right thing to do.”

Julie Buedding, Director of Development for the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Wisconsin said, “With the price of diesel, we are amazed by the generosity and big hearts of the entire trucking industry.”

Join in the fun this September as we truck across Wisconsin in support of Special Olympics. For more information on the Convoy, contact Julie Buedding at jbuedding@specialolympicswisconsin.org.
