This year we celebrate the 35th Anniversary of the Buckshot. Without volunteers the event wouldn’t just be unsuccessful, but it wouldn’t take place at all.  This 2 and 5 Mile run/walk takes place Tuesday, August 29 AND Saturday, September 2 at Carson Park in Eau Claire.  The event is family-friendly and draws a crowd of approximately 1,500 people between both days.  The event is chip timed and is tough enough for hard-core runners yet fun for those who want to just enjoy the park and help Special Olympics Wisconsin.  After each race is a Party in the Park with live music, food and drinks.

We are hopeful you will consider helping out and/or share this information with others who may be interested. There are multiple dates and times when we could use your help.

Keep in mind groups are also welcome; church, civic, businesses, clubs, etc. And finally, don’t think of it as time away from your family—bring them with you! We can use help from all ages!

Volunteer roles include set up, hanging banners, registration, handing out t-shirts, cheering/directing people along the course, greeting participants, clean up, etc.

Many volunteers are needed on multiple days.  You can sign up for one or all shifts!

Tuesday, August 29, 1-3 p.m. at Carson Park.  Tasks include hanging banners and caution tape, putting out t-shirts, moving tables, setting up the registration area and setting up the souvenir store

Volunteer Requirements
Those handling money must complete a Class A volunteer form and watch a short video at least 2 weeks prior to the event (if not already a valid Class A volunteer).  You’ll be contacted prior to the event if you need to complete this form, otherwise, this registration is all you need to do.

Special Olympics is 100% funded by fundraising events, donations, business partnerships and grants. Our events are very important so thank you in advance for checking your calendar and putting this date on it.

All ages are welcome to volunteer, however children under age 12 must have parental supervision.
