2018 R3 Regional Track & Field – Chippewa Falls

Make a Difference. Be a Volunteer. We’re looking for friendly people who’d like to volunteer for a worthy cause. Over 300 Special Olympics athletes from Northwest Wisconsin will be competing at this regional track and field event and we need your help. Volunteer Jobs and Shifts

Setup (7:30am-9:30am) – Volunteers will help set up tents, signage, tables, and chairs, fill water jugs, and deliver equipment to the appropriate event area. They will also sort the athlete meals and group them by agency.

Volunteer Registration (8:30am-1:00pm) – Volunteers will sign in all volunteers, give them a t-shirt, and direct them to their assigned area.

Softball Throw (9:00am-11:30am) – This is a developmental field event where athletes will have three trials to throw a softball as far as they can. Volunteers will stage athletes, measure distances, record scores, and escort athletes to awards when they are finished.

Mini Javelin (9:00am-11:30am) – This is a field event where athletes will have three trials to throw a miniature javelin as far as they can. Volunteers will stage athletes, measure distances, record scores, and escort athletes to awards when they are finished.

Shot Put (9:00am-11:30am) – This is a field event where athletes will have three trials to put a shot as far as they can with correct technique. Volunteers will stage athletes, measure distances, record scores, and escort athletes to awards when they are finished.

Souvenirs (9:00am-12:30pm, 12:30pm-4:00pm) – Volunteers will display and sell Special Olympics Wisconsin merchandise.

Awards (9:30am-1:00pm, 12:45pm-4:15pm) – Volunteers will collect award sheets, verify that the placements are correct, locate the corresponding ribbons in the binders, and put on the labels.

Long Jump (11:15am-1:15pm) – In this field event athletes will participate in either the running or standing long jump. Volunteers will stage athletes, measure distances, rake the sand pits, record scores, and escort athletes to awards when they are finished.

Track Stager (11:30am-4:00pm) – Volunteers will be at the start line placing athletes in the correct divisions.

Track Walker (11:30am-4:00pm) – Volunteers will be at the finish line to escort athletes to awards as athletes finish their races.

Track Timer (11:30am-4:00pm) – Volunteers will be assigned a lane before each race and use a stopwatch to time that lane from the finish line.

Wheelchair Events (1:15pm-2:00pm) – Assist with staging and timing on the track for wheelchair athletes.
