Athlete/Board Member, Martha Hill, to Attend Clinton Global initiative.

September 19, 2014

When Special Olympics Wisconsin athlete and board member, Martha Hill, started running as part of SO FIT!, she never imagined her jaunts would take her to New York City to rub shoulders with presidents and celebrities at the 10th Annual Clinton Global Initiative on September 21-24.

Martha is one of three athletes chosen to attend the nationwide conference hosted by former president, Bill Clinton, Secretary Hilary Clinton and Chelsea Clinton. The meeting’s theme is “Reimagining Impact” and will facilitate development of forward-thinking ways to impact the world. Key speakers include: President Barack Obama, Leonardo DiCaprio, Eva Longori, Uma Thurman and Matt Damon.

Special Olympics representatives will attend the Clinton Global Citizen Awards Dinner on Sunday, September 21 to honor Tom Golisano, a businessman and philanthropist. Golisano donated $12 million in 2012 to expand Special Olympics’ international health-related services over four years as part of the Healthy Communities initiative.
Through Healthy Communities programs like SO FIT!, his donation has changed the lives of Wisconsin athletes. Since Martha started running with a local trainer, she has reduced her blood pressure and competed in her first of many 5Ks.
