Filling the Dream – May 7, 2016

May 5, 2016

Eau Claire, Wis. – May 7 is shaping up to be a great day for Special Olympics Wisconsin athletes as volunteers prepare to pump gas in exchange for fundraising dollars.

The 11th annual Filling the Dream fundraiser for Special Olympics Indianhead Region is planned for May 7, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at all Mega Holiday gas station locations in Wisconsin.

Community members are encouraged to pull up to the pumps that day and Mega Holiday will donate 5 cents for every gallon pumped by volunteers.

Volunteers from businesses, churches, civic groups and law enforcement departments will “adopt” 33 Mega Holiday stations for the day in order to make this fundraiser happen.  Many stores will also be grilling and selling brats and burgers for lunch.  Proceeds from food will also be donated.

In addition to being a full service station for the day, all stores are selling paper icons for $1 to benefit the local Special Olympics program.

“Think about anything and everything that runs on gas and bring it”, says Karen Kraus, Director of Development.  “Remember to fill your boat, your motorcycle, your gas cans for the lawnmower, weed wacker, chainsaw…you name it”!

Since the fundraiser began in 2005 Mega Charities has donated more than $150,000 from the event.

This year’s event sponsors include Mega Holiday, the Law Enforcement Torch Run and Documation.
