Night with the Brewers Welcomes SOWI Community

September 26, 2022 Events, Press

Hundreds of Special Olympics Wisconsin athletes, coaches, families, volunteers, Board members, and staff from around the state were welcomed to American Family Field as the Brewers hosted the New York Mets, Monday, Sept. 19, courtesy the Milwaukee Brewers Community Foundation.

Keynote activations at the event included pregame recognition of Team Wisconsin athletes who competed at the recent 2022 USA Games in Orlando, Fla. Additionally, SOWI athlete and Cross Plains native Kyle Liegel threw out the ceremonial first pitch, and Unified Partner Camden Chart from New Berlin starred as junior announcer for the home half of the fourth inning.

Those in attendance were encouraged to sign the Pledge for Inclusion, helping create communities of respect for people with intellectual disabilities.

SOWI’s celebration at the Milwaukee Brewers game is a component of the OUR TEAM partnership, a first-of-its-kind initiative announced April 2022 between Special Olympics Wisconsin, Milwaukee Brewers, Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Bucks, and Milwaukee Admirals. OUR TEAM’s goal is to celebrate athletes of all abilities across Wisconsin and engage fans, players, partners and media to promote inclusion. This is all in effort to recognize Wisconsin as the first State of Inclusion by 2072.
