3 Easy Steps to Participate

  1. Choose your activities! There are 11 events to choose from. You can compete in as many as you’d like.
  2. Practice the events and keep track of your best scores.
  3. Fill out this form to submit your scores by Monday, June 1. You can also submit photos and videos of you competing.

 Track & Field (Athletics)

 

50m Run/Walk
How fast can you walk, roll or run?

Equipment
To complete this event, you will need proper footwear (running shoes), something to mark the start and finish lines and a phone or stopwatch to time your race.

Set-Up
You can run/walk the 50m on the sidewalk, yard, or in any open space. Please remember to watch where you are running and stay safe. Measure 50 meters (or 164 feet) from start to finish. If you are unable to use a measuring tape, you can measure by taking 60 large steps. Mark the distance.

How to Score
Use a stopwatch or phone timer to record how long it takes you to run 50 meters. Submit the time in minutes and seconds.

100m Run/Walk
How fast can you walk, roll or run?

Equipment
To complete this event, you will need proper footwear (running shoes), something to mark the start and finish lines and a phone or stopwatch to time your race.

Set-Up
You can run/walk the 100m on the sidewalk, yard, or in any open space. Please remember to watch where you are running and stay safe. Measure 100 meters (or 328 feet) from start to finish. If you are unable to use a measuring tape, you can measure by taking 120 large steps. Mark the distance.

How to Score
Use a stopwatch or phone timer to record how long it takes you to run 100 meters. Submit the time in minutes and seconds.

200m Run/Walk
How fast can you walk, roll or run?

Equipment
To complete this event, you will need proper footwear (running shoes), something to mark the start and finish lines and a phone or stopwatch to time your race.

Set-Up
You can run/walk the 200m on the sidewalk, yard, or in any open space. Please remember to watch where you are running and stay safe. Measure 100 meters (or 328 feet); when you run/walk and back it’ll be a total of 200 meters. If you are unable to measure 100 meters, you can take 120 large steps and use that distance to go down and back for 200 meters.

How to Score
Use a stopwatch or phone timer to record how long it takes you to run 200 meters. Submit the time in minutes and seconds.

2x50m Unified Relay
How fast can you and your unified partner walk, roll, or run 50m?

All Unified events in the 2020 SOWI Virtual Summer Games will include two competitors, one unified partner and one SOWI athlete! We recommend that you only partner with individuals that you live with and continue practicing social distancing with individuals outside of your household.

Equipment
To complete this event, you will need proper footwear (running shoes), something to mark the start and finish lines and a phone or stopwatch to time your race.

Set-Up
You can run/walk/roll the 2x50m unified relay on the sidewalk, yard, or in any open space. Please remember to watch where you are running and stay safe. Measure 25 meters (82 feet) with a tape measure, or by taking 32 large steps. Once you have marked the starting line and the finish line, you are ready to race. One partner will run one length of the course (25m), then tag the second partner who will run back to the start line (25m) to complete the 50m race.

How to Score
Use a stopwatch or phone timer to record how long it takes both athlete and unified partner to run the total 50m race. The combined score must be submitted in minutes and seconds.

Measure 50 meters (164 feet) with a tape measure, or by taking 65 large steps. Once you have marked the starting line and the finish line, you are ready to race. One partner will run one length of the course (50m), then tag the second partner who will run back to the start line (50m) to complete the 100m race.

How to Score
Use a stopwatch or phone timer to record how long it takes both athlete and unified partner to run the total 100m race. The combined score must be submitted in minutes and seconds.

Measure 100 meters (328 feet) with a tape measure, or by taking 130 large steps. Once you have marked the starting line and the finish line, you are ready to race. One partner will run one length of the course (100m), then tag the second partner who will run back to the start line (100m) to complete the 200m race.

Use a stopwatch or phone timer to record how long it takes both athlete and unified partner to run the total 200m race. The combined score must be submitted in minutes and seconds.

1 Mile Run/Walk
How fast can you walk, roll or run 1 mile?

Equipment
To complete this event, you will need proper footwear (running shoes), something to mark the start and finish lines and a phone or stopwatch to time your race.

Set-Up
You can run 1 mile on the sidewalk or in any open space. Please remember to stay off the road and safe from cars. If you have a smart phone or watch, you can use the device to track your distance and time. If you do not have a device that will track your distance and time as you run, ask a friend or family member to use their car to drive 1 mile and mark the distance. You can also run 0.5 miles out, and run back to the starting point for a total of 1 mile.

How to Score
Use a stopwatch or phone timer to record how long it takes you to run one mile. Submit the time in minutes and seconds.

Standing Long Jump
How far can you jump from a standing position?

Equipment
To complete this event, you will need proper footwear (tennis shoes), something to mark the starting line and a measuring tape to measure the distance of your jump.

Set-Up
Start behind the line, keep both feet on the ground and jump as far as you can. You will have three attempts.

How to Score
Measure the distance of your jump, from the starting line to the back of your heel. Submit your farthest jumped distance in feet and inches.

Softball Throw
How far can you throw a softball?

Equipment
To complete this event, you will need a softball, something to mark the starting line and a measuring tape to measure the distance of your throw.

Set-Up
Start with your feet behind the line, throw the softball as far as you can.  You will have three attempts.

How to Score
Measure the distance of your throw, from the starting line to where the softball first touched the ground. Submit your farthest thrown distance in feet and inches.

 Soccer

 

Dribbling
How fast can you accurately dribble a soccer ball?

Equipment
To complete this event, you will need a soccer ball, ten (10) cones (or a similar item), and a phone or stopwatch to time the event.

Set-Up
To set up your dribbling course, place the ten (10) cones or similar items in a line. The total length of the dribbling course should be 15 meters (50 feet), so each cone should be placed 1.5 meters (5 feet) apart. You can do this by using a tape measure, or by taking 2 large steps in between each cone. Start behind the first cone, and time how long it takes to dribble the soccer ball the length of the course by weaving in and out of the cones.

How to Score
Use a stopwatch or phone to time how long it takes to dribble through the line of cones. If you miss a cone, you must add 5 seconds to your total score. Submit your score in minutes and seconds.

Shooting
How many soccer goals can you score? 

Equipment
To complete this event, you will need a soccer ball, a soccer goal (or two items that can mark the two goal posts), and something to mark the shooting line.

Set-Up
Set up your goal by placing the two goal posts (or similar items) to mark the goal line. The goal posts should be 4 meters (13 feet) apart. You can measure the distance using a tape measure, or by taking 5 large steps. Next, use the tape or rope to mark the shooting line. The shooting line must be 6 meters (20 feet) away from the goal line. You can measure the distance between the goal line and the shooting line by using a tape measure, or by taking 8 large steps.

How to Score
Take 10 shots by lining up your soccer ball on the shooting line, and shooting at the goal. Each successful goal scores 1 point. Your final score is the total number of goals you scored out of 10 shots (i.e. if you score 6 goals on the 10 shots, your final score to submit is 6).
