Kimberly, from Greendale, joined Special Olympics in 1993. Her first sport as a Special Olympics athlete was gymnastics, but she longed to participate in aquatics. Kim took to the water like a fish, quickly learning all four strokes and competing on her high school swim team all four years. She has had many accomplishments as an athlete over the years, including lettering on her high school swim team, being awarded the Sunshine Award by her teammates, and competing in the 1999 World Games as a Special Olympics athlete. Some of her favorite moments from the 1999 World Games are the plane ride, opening and closing ceremonies, meeting other athletes, and having her parents come watch. In addition to swimming, Kim also participates in basketball, bocce, and volleyball. She also enjoys electronics, playing games, playing with her dog Pete, coloring, listening to books on her tablet, yard work, and feeding birds.
