Training and Games Logistics Manager

The Training and Games Logistics Manager is part of a dedicated team of professionals who, utilizing SOWI’s Guiding Values, work together to support Special Olympics Wisconsin’s (SOWI) vision and mission to open hearts and minds towards people with intellectual disabilities and create inclusive communities across Wisconsin by providing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendships with their families, other athletes, and the community.

The Training and Games Logistics Manager is responsible for coordination and implementation of all components of sports training and State Games logistics for Special Olympics Wisconsin (SOWI). The
position will initiate, improve and expand training and educational opportunities for coaches, officials, event management committees, and other volunteers.

Unified Champion School (UCS) Manager – Region 2, 4 & 5 

Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools® (UCS) is a strategy for school’s Pre-K through university that intentionally promotes meaningful social inclusion by bringing together students with and without intellectual disabilities to create accepting school environments, utilizing three interconnected components: Special Olympics Unified Sports®, inclusive youth leadership, and whole school engagement. Within the UCS strategy, there is a targeted strategy called, Unified Champion City School (UCCS), which is a focused approach to amplify the essential elements of UCS within city school districts. Specifically, UCCS amplifies Special Olympics UCS work in underrepresented and underserved communities, builds new stakeholder relationships, establishes a presence that extends work from schools into each city’s greater community, and grows UCS implantation in new schools and new communities.

This position will manage the implementation of Special Olympics Wisconsin’s (SOWI) Unified Programs for all grade levels within Regions 2, 4 and 5 school districts. In addition, the UCS Manager will work with the community and others to promote Special Olympics Unified Programs and further the goals, objectives, standards and mission of Special Olympics Wisconsin.

Volunteers

Regional Games Management Team Member
Special Olympics Wisconsin provides year-round sports training and competition for children and adults with cognitive disabilities.  The Games Management Team will assist the Regional Sports staff in planning and implementing Regional and District Competitions as well as training schools for coaches and athletes.  A variety of time commitments are available.  Hours are flexible.  GMT Members are asked to attend a minimum of 2 events per year.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent organizational & communication skills are helpful.
  • Knowledge of sports is necessary.
  • Occasional travel and some evening & weekend work is required
  • GMT members are at times required to assist with some heavy lifting and moving equipment.
  • Must be a Class A Certified Special Olympics Volunteer and kept current.

GMT Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning and coordination of SOWI Regional competitions.
  • Assist with volunteer management
  • Interaction with various coaches and volunteers~ enforcing games rules and etiquette.
  • Assist with loading and unloading trucks and set up/tear down of events.
  • Attend planning meetings-approximately 3 per year. These are scheduled in the evening time and are flexible on days and times
