First Director of Law Enforcement Torch Run, Dale Brunner passes.

August 14, 2014

It is with great sadness that we share that Retired Sergeant Dale Brunner, of the Milwaukee Police Department and first director of the Law Enforcement Torch Run® (LETR) for Special Olympics Wisconsin passed away on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 after a courageous battle with brain cancer.  Dale was instrumental in starting the LETR in Wisconsin and served as the Director from 1986 through 1999.  In 1999 the Wisconsin LETR Dale Brunner Hall of Fame was created to recognize outstanding individuals who have significantly contributed to the statewide success of the program.  It is an honor bestowed upon those participants who have gone above and beyond the normal call of duty in their efforts to enhance the Torch Run in its support of the mission of Special Olympics Wisconsin.

Dale ignited a spark among law enforcement officers to spread awareness of individuals with intellectual disabilities across the state and raise money to support the athletes of Special Olympics Wisconsin.  As Guardians of the Flame® it is our duty to keep that eternal flame burning in Dale’s honor.
