“She was crying, so I gave her my medal so she could celebrate with her family and take pictures.”
This week we hear from athlete Adam Hale from Milton!
How and when did you become involved with SOWI?
We were at Cougar Relays to watch an exhibition by the Special Olympics relay teams and I decided I’d like to try Track and Field, so I joined.
What sport(s) do you participate in and what is your favorite sport?
Bowling, Bocce, and Swim. I have done Track and Field and Basketball in the past. Bocce is my favorite!
What do you like most about being involved with SOWI?
I get to make new friends when I go to practices and competitions. I like learning every sport.
Tell us about one of your favorite memories with SOWI.
A few years ago, a new athlete didn’t receive her first ever medal because the awards closed before she made it there. She was crying, so I gave her my medal so she could celebrate with her family and take pictures. Then her family started to cry too. It made me feel really good.
How would your life be different if you never joined SOWI?
I would not know as many friends. Special Olympics has given me a chance to meet so many new people. I make new friends at practices, at competitions, and especially when I have been involved with Athlete Input Council.
Why do you think other people should get involved with SOWI?
So they can have a chance to have as much fun as I do.
