This tax season, do something Special.

December 20, 2013

In 2011, the Governor signed into law Wisconsin Act 76, which places Special Olympics Wisconsin on the Wisconsin State Income Tax Form under ‘Donations’. You may have noticed SOWI promoting this through the campaign, “This tax season, do something Special”.

Supporters can now easily donate to SOWI through their taxes by making a designation on their state income tax form. Simply find the section called “donations” and select Special Olympics in the listing of nonprofit organizations. Then, indicate the donation amount. Or, let a tax preparer know how much to contribute.

Here’s how you can help.

  • Encourage five friends and family members to make a tax donation to Special Olympics Wisconsin. Use this e-mail template to get the word out.
  • Promote the donation program at local establishments such as your school, place of worship, fitness center or library and in their newsletters, bulletins or websites.
  • Ask your employer or tax preparer if you can display information about the Special Olympics Wisconsin tax checkoff somewhere noticeable in your office or insert into employee paychecks. (Download the tax checkoff poster and flyer).
  • Write a letter to the editor of your local paper, encouraging people to make a donation to Special Olympics Wisconsin this tax season (View this one-pager with information about how to write a letter to the editor)
  • Remind your friends on social media about the tax checkoff and share to this PSA with them.
  • Include this “button” on your personal or company website to build awareness of the income tax checkoff.
